What began with three employees, two screwdrivers, a pair of pliers and a typewriter in 1939 today is a global company that manufactures more than 210 million filters annually for custom- ers in over 80 countries. Noted y Daimler AG said it will bring its newly unveiled update of the midrange Mercedes-Benz Vito commercial van to North America, saying it will be a global model like the Sprinter van, but did not say when. y Several lawsuits have been filed against truck and engine manufacturer Navistar over earlier model engines using exhaust gas recirculation technology, including one class-action suit. The suits allege Navistar sold engines with a defective emission system. y STI Holdings , parent company of Stoughton Trailers, has bought Oklahoma-based livestock trailer manufacturer Barrett Trailers . They will keep the Barrett name. y Phillips & Temro Industries has purchased auxiliary power unit maker Idle Free Systems , expanding PTI's presence in thermal systems and driver comfort. y Detroit Diesel produced its 250,000th DD Series engine, less than seven years after introduc- ing the first in the series, the Detroit DD15. y The Fontaine Fifth Wheel Group has expanded to include Fontaine Coupling Solutions, a new company dedicated to the terminal tractor (yard truck) market. It's headed up by Terry Mennen, previ- ously vice president for Fontaine Fifth Wheel. y Help Inc. announced its PrePass weigh station bypass system has hit a new high, with more than 475,000 pre-screened and qualified commercial trucks. PrePass has more than 300 sites in 31 states. y The Timken Company completed its spinoff of TimkenSteel Corp. y Accuride has hired Specialty Sales and Marketing, one of Canada's leading sales and marketing agencies in the commercial vehicle market, to help it expand its Canadian business. y Voss Automotive , a manufacturer of fluid line and connection systems for on- and off-highway vehicle and equipment applications, recently set up shop at a new North American headquarters in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
