88 HDT • OCTOBER 2014 www.truckinginfo.com EquipmentReport Stemco CentriFuse HD brake drums S temco's new CentriFuse HD brake drums were designed for severe-service applications and pro- vide up to double the service life of full-cast brake drums, according to the manufacturer. The brake drums are designed to increase performance and safety for both on- and off-highway use, including logging, con- crete, dump and refuse hauling. The CentriFuse HD is rated to 26,000 pounds per axle and weighs 100-111 pounds depending on the size of the brake. The patented high-alloy braking surface provides superior heat ab- sorption, resulting in reduced brake fade and wear. The CentriFuse HD brake drums come in a red jacket color and are available in 16.5-inch by 7-, 8- and 8.62-inch sizes. The ILS can be programed to shut down the engine after three, five or 10 minutes of idling. It will also shut down if the engine has reached a normal operat- ing temperature and the vehicle is in Park or Neutral. The ILS uses existing switches and sensors and requires no additional hardware to activate. The system Western Star's 5700XE W estern Star's new 5700XE brings a more classic-truck look to aerodynamics. The aerodynamic hood, roof, chassis and cab fairings reduce drag and increase efficiency, yet defy the tradi- tional "rounded" approach and instead include angles and edges. A new sweptback four-piece bumper, for example, is designed to sweep air up and over the fenders as well as around the wheels, with fang-like bumper end caps that sculpt the air flow around the truck. Other features include: • New halogen headlights optimized for aerodynamic performance and visibility. • A sun visor engineered to work with the slope in the hood's rear air ramp to direct airflow over the cab without an aerodynamic penalty. • Roof and cab fairings that sweep back for tighter trailer gap and help direct air flow over and around the trailer. • Optional chassis side fairings that reduce drag by up to 6% while providing easy access to batteries and DEF tank. • The Twin Force dual air intake, which feeds a centrally mounted air filter to improve efficiency. Adding to the fuel efficiency is the Detroit DD15 engine. The next- generation Amplified Common Rail Fuel System delivers up to 36,000 psi injection pressure for finer atomization of the fuel and a more com- plete burn. A lighter and less complex asymmetric turbocharger and a variable-speed water pump reduce parasitic loads when full output is not required. The truck also has many high-tech safety features such as lane depar- ture warning, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation and stability controls. The 5700XE is available with several sleeper configurations, including 34-, 40-, 54-, 68-, and 82-inch in low-roof, high-roof Stratosphere, and ultra-high-rood Stratosphere. Wheelbases up to 250 inches are standard. Longer wheelbases are available with engineering approval.
