Trucking's Most Respected Business Report hotline 22 HDT • NOVEMBER 2014 www.truckinginfo.com Quotable "Millennials are used to getting information at a click, but they read more books – paper books – than any other generation." – Mark Gardner, CEO, AvatarFleet, speaking at American Trucking Associations' Management Conference & Exhibition Think pink Mack Trucks showcased a pink Mack Pinnacle axle-back model tractor at its Greensboro, N.C., headquarters as part of several activities scheduled in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Fleet utilization still trending upward U tilization data for the third quar- ter shows Class 6-8 vehicles were operating at 83.3% of capacity, accord- ing to MacKay & Co. While this is down from the second quarter, they note, the prior quarter contained some "catch-up" from the weather-related dip in the first quarter. It's practically the same as the rolling four-quarter average of 83.1%. The four- quarter average hasn't been that high since the second quarter of 2011, when the quarterly number was followed by a huge dip in the third quarter. Compared to the third quarter a year ago, utilization is up 1.2 points. "The upward trend of utilization continues and it is expected to maintain this slope for the balance of the year," MacKay says. "Historically, Q1 is lower and we anticipate 2015 Q1 utilization will follow this pattern as well." For more information, visit www.mackayco.com or contact John Blodgett, (800) 926-6110.
