Western Star 4800SB 8x8 AWD W estern Star Trucks announced the availability of its 4800SB allwheel drive model in an 8x8 axle configuration. It's equipped with a two-speed transfer case for better gradeability. Spec'd with a 57,000-pound tridem rear and a 23,000-pound front axle, the 4800SB 8x8 AWD model is suited for customers operating digger derricks and other specialized heavy equipment. Additionally, the transfer case is equipped with integral air shift controls for front axle engagement and features helical gears with constant mesh to minimize operating noise. The 4800SB 8x8 AWD truck is available with power ratings from 350 to 470 horsepower and 1,250 to 1,650 pounds-feet of torque and features a short 109-inch BBC to provide power and maneuverability in tight work spaces. Michelin says this will provide a "one call does it all" nationwide breakdown solution. Starting in January, OnCall 2.0 will feature mechanical and towing, in addition to its tire services, plus realtime breakdown monitoring. When towing services for Class 5 through 8 trucks are needed, OnCall 2.0 will arrange transportation of the truck to the customer's location of choice. In the event of truck abandonment, it will provide secured storage and cleaning options. MobileTraq Vue is a flexible, asset-based monitoring system for connected and stand-alone truck and trailer monitoring. A programmable color touch-screen display allows the driver to see and hear warnings. The MobileTraq platform was developed to readily connect with Mobile Awareness wired and wireless sensors, the first of which is TireStat TPMS. TireStat TPMS is a flow-thru tire sensor mountable inside the tire or externally on the valve stem. The TPMS sensors transmit data every 60 seconds to the MobileTraq monitor, with pressure and temperature events triggering the system to alarm in real-time. It contains all of the tools needed for axle preparation, which can be the most difficult step in the installation process without the proper tools. This toolkit reduces the time necessary to drill an axle to less than a minute per hole. The Webb Vortex severe-duty drum designs dissipate brake heat and lower the average brake operating temperature. Six new drums are available for 16.5 by 5 inches, 16.5 by 6 inches, 16.5 by 7 inches, 16.5 by 8 inches and 16.5 by 8.62 inches brake sizes to fit multiple applications.
